Types of Fishing Lures
There are several types of fishing lures to select from if you are a fisherman. You will discover that fishing with the correct lures allows you to land more fish and make the most of your day on the water. On the contrary, choosing the wrong lure will make you spend hours fishing and come home with nothing. Knowledge of the different types of lures will make you be a better fisherman and have a more fruitful day at your favorite water.
Crank Bait Classics: like Model A and Fat-Free Shad manufactured by Bomber are some common and useful classic lip crankbaits. They are used to catch bass in a different type of situations. Crankbaits are normally used to cover a large body of water quickly to locate hungry bass.
Plastic worms: this lure is considered as the best lure for fishing bass. Soft plastic worms come in a lot of sizes and shapes, they all have a place. They are the most versatile lure in the market. They are very effective on their own and trailers on other bass fishing lures.
Tube Baits – These baits are among the most effective bass lures available. This type of fishing lure catches both small and largemouth alike and can be used in any kind of water at whatever temperature to catch bass. Texas-Rig with a tungsten weight is the right way to rig this bass bait. The tungsten weight produces a clicking sound as it bounces across structure; this sound helps them search the bait out.
Plugs: These kinds of lures are made to look like the shape of a fish’s body and they are produced to run underwater. Plugs need to be in motion to be able to attract fish attention of the fish and, as a result, lure them to the hook.
Spoons: As the name applied, these are metal lures that resemble a spoon. When retrieving them, they make a shaking movement that is attractive to the fish. They are cheap and very easy to use, making it an excellent choice for beginners.
Spinners: this kind of fishing lure comes with rotating blades and the rotating movement gives off reflections that mimic a light shining from the scales of a fish in the water. When you retrieve a spinner device, you can change the speed you retrieve, making it look like a wounded fish. If you are fishing for trout or mullet a small spinner will work well but if you are targeting a pike use a larger spinner.
Jerk Baits: These baits do not make any movement by themselves, but it is the fisherman who jerks them and makes them act like an injured fish or a wounded worm. You can throw it into the water and then make a zigzag movement with your rod which fakes the movements of a wounded fish, which makes it look like you are trying to attract a tasty morsel.
Soft baits: These baits are rubber baits that look like frogs or long worms or a lot of other shapes. These are usually used with a weighted jig head and are retreat slowly or with jerky movements.
Floating Divers: These are the kind of fishing lures that go down the water after your cast and are able to cover depths of about 15 feet or more. Each is designed for different depth and it depends on the angle of the lure. The lure with a smaller angle will go down deeper than the lure with a larger angle. It also depends on the depth of the water the target fish you target hangs out, this will determine the type of lure you are using.
Synthetic flies: Flies are preys for fish. Therefore, synthetic flies are effective; they are usually used with fly reels and fly rods in fly-fishing.
Heavy Standard Casting Lures: These type of lure is best to use for fish like walleye and bass. Like any other lures, they come in different sizes, shapes, and colors.
Swimbait: This lure is very effective especially when it is designed like a minnow. Soft plastic minnow is usually reeled like plugs. They may have swimming tails sometime and are therefore called swimbaits.
Long Casting – Jigging Lures: These types of lures are used for long casting and are used to fish anything from trout to tuna and pike.
Deadly Diamond Lures: these are small fishing lures that weigh less than 1 ounce and are used for smaller fish. It has a diamond shape on top and the light reflecting from it attracts the fish. This lure is usually used for crappy and walleye, even though they are good for other small species.
Buzzbait: This bait is designed to churn through water in a similar way like an egg beater, buzzbait lures are another method bass anglers used to entice lunkers off the cover. The main characteristic that differentiates this lure from others is its ability to create vibrations while dragging it through the water. This attracts fish that was unable to see the lure at first. With its combination of color and motion, these lures can work wonders.
Sassy Shad: Although there are many types of swimbaits to choose from, this is a unique type, and it comes in sizes that will land fish like magnum marlin and dink bream. Since its introduction in the 1980s, a lot of fish species have fallen for this boot- tailed softbait.
Flatfish lures: there is a large flatfish and a small flatfish. All of them work perfectly without complaint. But, they have to be fished slowly. My preferred is F4, 1 inch long, on a perch scale, which is best for trolling rainbow trout in the ponds. When fishing you can paddle or row slowly to allow the plug wobble but not spin.
Culprit Tassel Lizard: This soft plastic lizard is very common in the spring when bedding bass will aggressively attack this apparent predator near its nests. This 6-inch plastic lizard lure has an additional wiggle built in through its tail and leg tendrils. You can cast the lure beyond bedding bass and then silently drew the lure close to the bed and allowed to sit until the bass attack. Do not neglect this lure at other times, “they will catch fish in all season.
